Nasty Little DISCLAIMER AGREEMENT
If you use BYSTATE, you must accept this disclaimer of warranty.

Introduction
------------
Makes screen showing number of callers from each State<ASP>.
This program will create a Hellox or a Bullx screen showing
the total number of callers to your BBS from each State, plus
Foreign calls. Will work with Single or Multi-Node Wildcat 3.x BBS.
This is a simple way to keep track of all the out of state calls,
and to see where they are coming from. As an author of Shareware
programs I use it to keep track of where calls to my BBS come in from
and thus I can track areas and upload new programs to those areas that
called my BBS.
What is Shareware?
------------------
Shareware is a form of distribution which gives users a chance to try
software before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
to use it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on
details -- some request registration while others require it, some
specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything
from the simple right to continue using the software to an updated
program with printed manual.
Registration
------------
If you find BYSTATE useful and you continue to use it after a reasonable
(30 days) trial period, you are required to make a registration payment
of $20.00 to Larry Edwards. See "REGIS.TXT" for more information.
The $20.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time.
You must treat a registered version of this software just like a book.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time,
this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
from one computer location to another, as long as there is no possibility
of it being used in two different locations at the same time.
Commercial users of BYSTATE must register and pay for their copies of the
program within 15 days of first use or their license is withdrawn. For
site-license information, contact the author direct.
You are encouraged to pass (unregistered) copies of BYSTATE along
to your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users can get
a registered version of BYSTATE by calling my BBS and downloading it.
(See REGIS.TXT for more details)
Though the program is not "crippled" in anyway, this shareware version
shows an "Unregistered" status message on the screen.
Please fill out the included registration order form (file REGIS.TXT)
and send in your registration today. You can send REGIS.TXT to your
printer by typing:
"COPY REGIS.TXT PRN" (without the quotes)
and then pressing ENTER while at the MS-DOS prompt.
What Do I Get for Registering, and Why Should I?
------------------------------------------------
Here are some reasons why you should register:
o You can pick up a registered copy of the program by calling my BBS,
with your name shown as being registered. When a new version comes
out you can download a registered copy from my BBS.
o You get a LIFETIME license, meaning you're entitled to all future
versions/upgrades of BYSTATE.
o You get unlimited technical support via surface mail or electronic
mail.
o You have the author's ear when it comes to suggesting new features
and capabilities.
o You help increase competition in the software industry by keeping
prices low (shareware doesn't rely on expensive advertising).
o Finally, you can be proud of the honesty and integrity you've shown
in registering the program and having participated in the Shareware
revolution.
Installation and Operation
--------------------------
BYSTATE was made to work easily and safely. BUT, there are a few little
things you need to do, FIRST and foremost is to extract the BYSTATE.EXE
into your directory that contains your Quesnew.001 file, usually this is
C:\WC30\QUES. This program will work on Single or Multi-node BBSs, but it
won't go hunting for the needed files, so they must all be in the same
directory. SECOND, this program must be called from within that directory.
Okay, now we've got the hard part taken care of<G>.
To start the program simply type:
BYSTATE C:\WC30\DISP\HELLO3.BBS 9
"BYSTATE" starts the program, followed by the PATH and NAME of the output
file you want, plus the reference number of the state answer in your
QuesNew.xxx file I.E...[Ref:009]. I use it as a Hello.BBS and have it as
part of my nightly event batch file with the following lines:
CD\WC30\QUES
CALL BYSTATE C:\WC30\DISP\HELLO3.BBS 9
CD\WC30
I use the "CALL" statement to be sure that the program returns to the .bat
file when it is finished so the next command can be executed.
If you are running a Single Node BBS, it will read the Quesnew.001 file,
and exit. If you are running a Multi-Node BBS, it will read ALL of the
Quesnew.xxx files in your directory and will only write the screen AFTER
they ALL have been read with a total count for each state. I have also
included 2 areas for Non-State calls. #1 is FOREIGN, if the program finds
anything not corresponding to a State abreviation it will assume it is
a call from out of the country and count it as a FOREIGN call. #2 is
UNLISTED, if someone did not answer the State question in the proper place
then it is counted as an UNLISTED call.
Upgrading from BYSTATE3.10
--------------------------
Copy this new .exe file over your old one and add the Reference Number
to the end of your command line.
What's New
----------
03/27/93
I have had many request to make this compatible with "Non-Standard" New
User questionaires. So here it is, simply add the reference number of the
location of the State answer from your Quesnew.001 file and it will read
that area.

Many Thanks to my Wife, Evelyn, for her Friendship, Love, and Support in
every aspect of my life. Especially my addiction to computer keyboards.
I've made every effort to provide a safe and stable program, BUT...
If you find errors or additions, please let me know.
NOTE: Your registration and support for this program will enable me to
continue to develop BYSTATE and add other valuable features in future
versions.
I'd appreciate bug reports, new feature requests, comments, performance
problems, constructive criticism, suggestions, additions.
